During my time with IGG I was part of the cinematics team and I had the opportunity to work on the release trailer for the Galaxy Mobile game. I was tasked with creating the enemy spaceships for the trailer, both the modelling and texturing.
The larger ship was based on an existing ship that we had to flesh out fully and add substantial more detail to. This was an incredible experience for me since I was primarily focused on character work and had not done very much hard surface work. The larger ship was quite the struggle as we had to establish a sense of scale while still maintaining a fairly tight production cycle. I used pre existing kit bash elements as well as creating my own to break up the larger silhouette of the ship, and a greeble like texture to create the illusion of smaller detail.
The single ship was meant to be more of an organic form integrated with mechanical parts. The alien movies and H. R. Giger were a huge inspiration in trying to develop the overall esthetic of the craft. Some of the hard surface geo and texture elements were shared between the larger ship and this one in order to better tie them together. I would have love to see this visual represented in different scales of ships but alas we gotta work with what we got. The design of this was created by our talent concept artist Joseph Kim.
I would like to thank my lead, the incredibly talented Akbar Erabiyan, for his guidance and direction during production. A big shout out goes to the entire cinematics team at IGG Canada. My time there was incredible and I am incredibly thankful to be able to develop and push my skills further.
